A Brace at Dixie
When you ride a brace at Dixie
On a crisp and sunny morn
You’ll have had a taste of heaven
As sure as you’ve been born
When you get to the breakaway
A short ride from the barn
Restless steaming horses
Will be pawing to be gone
There’ll be a brief announcement
Of thanks to Geraldine
A prayer for safety
Before a judge nods release
Two pointers will sprint away
To begin their hunt
Through the opening field into the woods
To the big hay field beyond
You’ll cross the red dirt entry road
That leads to the Big House
Ride down through sloping piney woods
To a stream and fields past that
Then ahead you’ll see Pikes Peak
And the dogs will soon attack it.
One to the left
One on the right
Across the long flat top
They will charge on in their quest
To big crop fields beyond
Then down through Cadillac Field to Cadillac Pond
Then on through woods
To the corner where
An hour brace is done
How many finds how big a race
Will decide which dogs go on
