Holiday

Happy Holidays!

A special thanks to everyone who contributed articles, stories and photos to Strideaway since late July when the site went live. Your time, expertise and generosity are greatly appreciated. The site has been viewed by over 7,500 unique visitors from around the world with close to 19,000 visits. Over 50% of our viewers have added Strideaway to their favorites!

In January, Strideaway will become a not-for-profit organization. Money generated from advertising revenue will continue to go toward the upkeep of the site. Mazie and I decided that the remainder will go toward worthy wild bird field trial related activities in need of financial support. All the profits this year will go toward the Armstrong-Umbel Endurance Classic.

Armstrong-Umbel Endurance Classic

Even the healthy entry the Black Ash Club members expect cannot generate enough money to pay the expenses for the high caliber event this promises to be, boasting two of the most respected judges of grouse dogs in the country plus a good sized purse the club feels appropriate to pay the winners. If you wish to help in those efforts with a $50 contribution, Strideaway will add you as a kennel (logo and link) or individual to the right side of this (under Armstrong-Umbel logo) page for one year (if desired). Please contact Strideaway if you are interested. Or show your support by entering a dog or just come watch!

Strideaway articles/stories to come in the near future:

• Michigan grouse trialer, Doc Holmes (Harold Holmes) is working on an article on the Importance of Endurance

• Mazie and I are working on an interview on Scouting All Age Dogs

• Last chapters of Tom Word’s Last Season

• Excerpts from early reports of Grand National Grouse Championship winners

• Jerry Kolter on Judging Derbies

• Mazie and I have been doing interviews with a variety of field trial people which will eventually be presented as podcasts. Hopefully I’ll figure out how to do that over the holidays!

Your input and ideas are very welcome!

Also coming in January: Strideaway decals you can buy online!

A Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all our field trial friends!

ABOUT STRIDEAWAY

Strideaway is an online publication founded in 2008. We are dedicated to promoting the great sport of American pointing dog field trials, in particular American Field sanctioned trials for pointers and setters. Our objective is to present the voices and ideas of experienced trainers, handlers, breeders and other knowledgeable participants and enthusiasts from the past to the present — amateurs and professionals alike. Whether All-Age or Shooting Dog, Horseback or Walking Trials, we place particular emphasis on wild bird field trials and the dogs that compete in them. We present richly illustrated articles and stories, podcast interviews and other types of media on a regular basis with the hope of providing an ever expanding, searchable archive of information relevant to pointing dog field trials.Read article

This website is dedicated to our ever faithful friend and Strideaway contributor, Bill Allen, whose book The Unforgettables and Other True Fables we published in 2010.
