North Dakota Dog Training Permit: Reminder
For those who may have missed Sherry Ebert’s article North Dakota Summer Training in the May, 2009 edition of the Field:
If you are heading out to train bird dogs in North Dakota this summer/fall, please obtain your dog training permit. For non resident professionals (training or hosting field trials) the fee is $100. For amateurs (with more than four dogs), the fee is $25.
Permit forms should be requested from:
North Dakota Game and Fish Department
100 North Bismarck Freeway
Bismarck, N.D. 58501-5095
Call: 701-328-6335
The permit will be accompanied by a set of guidelines. Of special importance is the section pertaining to use of live protected birds for dog training and field trials which must be followed to the letter.
Please do not neglect to obtain your permit. It could jeopardize the future for all those who enjoy and whose livelihoods are tied to training dogs in North Dakota. If you know a retriever or flushing dog trainer headed to N.D., please remind them of their obligation as well.
